The love one has for their animals is pure and unfettered. My portraits become an expression of that love – capturing their essence is critical to my art.

Heather Laws specializes in and is passionate about the painting of portraits of companion animals and their human counterparts.. She works primarily in the medium of pastel, but also accepts commissions in oil. Her portraits can be found in homes throughout North America and abroad.

Heather’s mentor was her father, the late Norman Laws. A talented and successful commercial artist, he nurtured her artistic talents, providing her with unfailing support and constructive artistic guidance. The value of his mentoring is today reflected in the care, precision and authenticity of Heather’s art.

Heather has exhibited her work at numerous shows, while constantly continuing to pursue her artistic endeavours and professional development. Her work has been published in the October 2004 issue of the Pastel Journal. Heather’s work has won regional and national awards including Honorable Mention in the Draft Horse Classic and Western Art Show, Grass Valley, Navada in 2002, and winner of the Cover Artwork Competition for the Pastel Artists Canada 2016 ICAN Convention. Heather is now an associate member of the Colorado based Society of Animal Artists (SAA) and a Siginature member; Director and Exibitions Coordinator of the Pastel Artists of Canada (PAC) and a newly elected member of the Ontario Society of Artists (OSA).

Heather continues to develop her work, taking workshops and viewing demonstrations conducted by nationally and internationally recognised artists.
